Initiatives
Our initiatives put collaboration into action. Through advocacy, planning, mobilization, and lived-experience-led engagement, we bring people and organizations together to advance practical solutions that prevent, reduce, and end homelessness in Ottawa.
Race to End Homelessness
Launched in 2025, the Race to End Homelessness is an annual run/walk/roll that raises funds for Alliance member organizations while bringing our community together to help end homelessness in Ottawa.
Lessons in Ending Homelessness
Lessons in Ending Homelessness is the Alliance’s annual January event, bringing together thought leaders and practitioners from across Canada and around the world to share approaches to preventing and ending homelessness.
Housing and Homelessness Leadership Table
The Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa holds a dedicated seat at the Housing and Homelessness Leadership Table in recognition of its role as a local leader in convening and galvanizing the sector, and has an additional backbone role, providing secretariat support and dedicated staff resources to implement the workplan of the HHLT.
The Empathy Project
The Empathy Project is an interactive learning experience developed and facilitated by people with first-hand experience of homelessness, alongside their supporters. It helps participants understand the barriers people encounter when navigating housing, social services, and other systems while experiencing poverty or homelessness.
i2i / Expert Steering Team (EST)
i2i—Insight 2 Impact—is the Alliance’s education and consulting social enterprise, helping organizations put lived-experience knowledge into practice. Its work is grounded in the expertise of our Expert Steering Team (EST), a staff team of housing and homelessness professionals who have personally experienced homelessness.
Ottawa Social Housing Network (OSHN) Caucus
In 2026 the OSHN Caucus was established, integrating OSHN into the Alliance to bring OSHN’s deep knowledge of housing together with the Alliance’s strength in advocacy, mobilization, government relations and system planning.
DASH Project
ASH—Decisions for Affordable/Social Housing—is a community-based research project in partnership between the University of Ottawa and the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa.
Starts With Home
