The Empathy Project is an interactive learning experience developed and facilitated by people with first-hand experience of homelessness, alongside their supporters. It helps participants understand the barriers people encounter when navigating housing, social services, and other systems while experiencing poverty or homelessness.
Participants follow a fictional but realistic scenario, working through applications, referrals, and obstacles as they try to access the supports they need. A facilitated discussion follows, connecting what participants have learned to changes they can make in their own work and communities.
The project invites organizations, decision-makers, and community members to challenge assumptions, learn from lived expertise, and turn understanding into action.
